From a public health point of view - we face the 20th anniversary of an important European development: "The introduction of a health mandate in the Maastricht Treaty" - the treaty on The European Union which was signed in 1992 and entered into force in 1993.
On the background of these discussions and events the Department of International Health set up a research group to study the past developments in European Public Health with a special focus on what has been achieved or not since the health mandate was introduced.
The outcome includes a qualitative study on the perceptions of European key health stakeholders on the achievements, failures and missed opportunities in European health since the Maastricht Treaty. The initial results have been presented at a symposium on “20 years after Maastricht. The shaping of a new policy field?”.
